The short version

This site sets only strictly necessary cookies, so that the site works, so that newsletter sign-in functions, and so that your cookie choices are remembered. It does not currently set any analytics or advertising cookies.

Strictly necessary cookies

These do not require your consent, because the site cannot work without them. They are set by Ghost, the platform this site runs on, and by CookieYes, which records your cookie choices.

  • Session and sign-in cookies. Used if you subscribe to the newsletter or sign in to manage your subscription. They keep you signed in and let the site know the request is genuinely yours.
  • Security cookies. Used to protect against cross-site request forgery and similar attacks.
  • Consent cookies. Set by CookieYes, the consent management platform this site uses, to record your cookie choices so that you are not asked again on every page.

These cookies contain no marketing information and are not shared with advertisers.

Optional cookies

This site does not currently set any analytics or advertising cookies. If that changes, they will be optional and set only where you have given consent through the cookie banner, and this notice will be updated first.

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the cookie settings option the banner provides, or by clearing cookies in your browser.

Controlling cookies in your browser

Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, usually under settings, privacy. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop parts of this site working, in particular the newsletter subscription. Blocking optional cookies will not affect anything you can see.

Do Not Track and global privacy signals

Where your browser sends a recognised opt-out signal, I treat it as a refusal of optional cookies.
