Website terms and conditions
The terms on which you may use this website. Nothing on it is legal advice.
Email meThis website is operated by me, Geoffrey Caesar, a solicitor of England and Wales practising in my own name as a freelance solicitor from London. SRA ID 483394, freelance practice SRA number 666497. Correspondence address: Geoffrey Caesar, 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA. By using the site you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use it.
These terms govern your use of the website. They are different from my terms of service, which govern legal work I do for clients.
1. Nothing here is legal advice
- The content of this website, including the service pages, the prices, the answers to questions and anything published in the newsletter or in articles, is general information. It is not legal advice and must not be relied on as such.
- Law changes, and general information cannot take account of your particular facts. Two situations that look identical often are not.
- Reading this website does not make you my client and does not create a solicitor and client relationship. That relationship arises only when I have agreed in writing to act for you on an identified matter.
- Sending me an email, subscribing to the newsletter or booking a call does not by itself create a solicitor and client relationship, although anything you send me seeking advice is treated as confidential whether or not you go on to instruct me.
- Prices shown on this website are indicative of my published fixed fees for the services described. They are not an offer capable of acceptance. The fee for your matter is the fee I confirm to you in writing once I have seen it.
2. Using the site
- You may view, download and print pages for your own use or for the internal use of your business.
- You must not use the site or its content in any way that is unlawful, that interferes with its operation or security, or that attempts to gain unauthorised access to it.
- You must not scrape, harvest or systematically extract content for commercial reuse, or use automated means to place unreasonable load on the site.
- You must not republish, sell or redistribute the content, or present it as your own.
- Nothing in these terms restricts fair dealing rights under copyright law, including quotation with acknowledgement.
3. Intellectual property
All content on this website, including text, articles, page structure and design, is my property or is used with permission, and is protected by copyright. You may quote short extracts with a clear attribution and a link to the page you are quoting from.
4. Links
- This website links to other websites. Those links are provided for convenience. I do not control those websites, I do not endorse them, and I am not responsible for their content or their handling of your data.
- You may link to any page of this website provided you do so fairly, do not suggest any association or endorsement that does not exist, and do not frame the content.
5. The newsletter
If you subscribe to the newsletter you will receive articles and commentary by email. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any issue. The newsletter is general commentary and clause 1 applies to it in full. What I do with your email address is set out in my privacy notice.
6. Availability
I do not guarantee that this website will always be available or free from errors. I may change, suspend or withdraw all or part of it without notice. I may also change these terms by updating this page.
7. Liability
- Nothing in these terms excludes or limits my liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else which cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
- Subject to that, the website is provided on an 'as is' basis and I give no warranties of any kind about it or its content, including as to accuracy, completeness or fitness for any purpose.
- Subject to clause 7.1, I am not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this website or from reliance on anything published on it, including loss of profit, loss of business, loss of goodwill, loss or corruption of data, or any indirect or consequential loss.
- If you are a consumer, these terms do not affect rights you have under law which cannot be excluded.
8. Cookies and data
See my cookie notice for what is stored on your device, and my privacy notice for what I do with personal data.
9. Complaints and concerns
If something on this website is wrong, out of date or objectionable, tell me at geoffrey@caesar.co.uk and I will look at it. If you wish to complain about a service I have provided, see complaints.
10. Governing law
These terms and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or their subject matter or formation, including non-contractual disputes or claims, are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
