These terms govern your use of caesar.co.uk. By using the site, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

About this site

This site is operated by Geoffrey Caesar, a solicitor regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). Contact: geoffrey@caesar.co.uk. Regulatory information about my practice is set out on the Regulatory page of this site.

These terms cover only your use of caesar.co.uk. They do not govern any legal services I provide. Where I am instructed to act, the contract for those services is set out in a separate engagement letter and accompanying terms of business, which are provided and agreed at the point of engagement. Nothing on this site, and nothing in these terms, creates a solicitor-client relationship.

The content on this site is published for general information and commentary only. It is not legal advice and must not be relied on as such. Legal questions are fact-specific, the law changes, and what is published here may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong for your circumstances. If you have a legal issue, take advice on your facts from a solicitor or other appropriately qualified adviser before acting.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, I accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from any reliance placed on the content of this site by you or anyone else.

All content on this site, including text, essays, newsletter posts, photographs, illustrations, design elements, and the Caesar wordmark and "C" mark, is copyright Geoffrey Caesar, all rights reserved, except where attributed otherwise.

You may not copy, reproduce, republish, distribute, or otherwise exploit the content of this site, in whole or in part, in any medium, without my prior written consent. The only exception is a short, properly accredited quotation for the purposes of comment, criticism, review, or reporting, provided that:

  • the quotation is reasonable in length and proportionate to the purpose;
  • the author (Geoffrey Caesar) is clearly named;
  • there is a working hyperlink back to the original page on caesar.co.uk.

Use of this site's content for training, fine-tuning, or evaluation of artificial intelligence or machine learning models, or for inclusion in datasets used for those purposes, is not permitted without my prior written consent. This applies whether the use is by automated means, scraping, or otherwise.

Permitted use of the site

You may access and view the site for your own personal or internal business purposes. You agree not to:

  • use the site in any way that breaches any applicable law or regulation;
  • use the site to send, knowingly receive, upload, download, use, or re-use any material that is unlawful, defamatory, or infringing;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, the server on which it is stored, or any connected server, computer, or database;
  • introduce any virus, trojan, worm, logic bomb, or other malicious or harmful material;

This site is published using Ghost, and the newsletter is delivered by Ghost's native email service. If you subscribe, your email address is processed for the purpose of sending you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email. Subscriber data is handled in accordance with my privacy policy and Ghost's own terms and privacy notices.

The site may contain links to third-party websites. Those links are provided for convenience only. I do not control the content of those sites, do not endorse them, and accept no responsibility for them or for any loss or damage that may arise from your use of them.

You may link to caesar.co.uk from your own site, provided you do so in a way that is fair and lawful, does not damage my reputation or take advantage of it, and does not suggest any form of endorsement, association, or approval where none exists. I reserve the right to withdraw linking permission at any time.

Availability and accuracy

I aim to keep the site available and the content accurate, but I do not guarantee that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free from viruses or other harmful components. The site is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis.

I reserve the right to change, suspend, or withdraw any part of the site, or the site as a whole, at any time and without notice.

Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes my liability for: death or personal injury caused by negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded as a matter of English law.

Subject to the paragraph above, and to the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • I accept no liability for any loss or damage, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, or otherwise, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, this site, or any reliance placed on its content;
  • I will not be liable for any indirect, consequential, or special loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue, business, goodwill, opportunity, anticipated savings, data, or wasted expenditure.

If you are using the site as a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected.

Complaints

Any complaint about the site, or about me in my capacity as a solicitor, should be raised in accordance with the Complaints page of this site, which sets out my complaints procedure and how and when a complaint can be referred to the Legal Ombudsman or the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Privacy and cookies

My use of personal data collected through the site (including newsletter subscriptions and any contact you make through the site) is governed by my privacy policy, which is published separately on this site. The site uses only the cookies necessary to operate it and to deliver the newsletter and analytics services I have chosen to use; details are in the privacy and cookies policy.

Changes to these terms

I may update these terms from time to time. The version in force is the version published on this page. Please check this page when you visit the site so that you are aware of any changes. Continued use of the site after a change is made constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or their subject matter (including non-contractual disputes or claims), are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any such dispute or claim.

General

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest of the terms remain in force. A failure or delay by me in enforcing any term is not a waiver of my right to enforce it later. These terms are between you and me; no third party has any right to enforce them under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.

Contact

Questions about these terms should be sent to geoffrey@caesar.co.uk.
