Ask Caesar
Ask Caesar
Your business has a solicitor. A named, senior commercial solicitor, already in place, for £495 a month.
See what it costs and join onlineAsk Caesar is a monthly subscription that gives your business its own solicitor. For £495 a month you have a named, senior commercial solicitor already in place: someone you can call your solicitor from the day you join, and who answers your legal questions as they come up. I am Geoffrey Caesar, a solicitor of England and Wales admitted in 2008, working on commercial contracts since 2001. I am based in London and act for businesses across England and Wales.
Your solicitor, already in place
Sooner or later somebody says 'get your lawyer to look at this'. A customer sends their terms, an investor asks who your solicitor is, a supplier wants a contract signed by Friday. Most small businesses do not have an answer, and finding one at that moment means searching, comparing quotes and explaining the business from scratch to someone new.
As a member you have the answer already. You can say you will get your solicitor to look at it, and mean it. Send it to me with your question that day. I will tell you what matters in it and whether it needs a full review. If it does, you are already a client, so there is nothing to set up: the work starts straight away, at the member price. With Ask Caesar Plus, it is included.
Most legal questions in a small business never get asked. Not because they do not matter, but because asking means finding a lawyer, agreeing a fee and waiting for an answer, and by then the contract has been signed or the email has gone. So the question goes to a search engine, or to an AI, or to a friend who once ran a company, and the business carries on with an answer it cannot rely on.
Ask Caesar removes the hesitation. You ask, I answer, and nothing else happens: no hourly rate, no quote, no invoice for each question. It is the arrangement most businesses already have with their accountant, applied to their lawyer.
What it costs
Ask Caesar, £495 a month. A named solicitor for your business, your legal questions answered as they come up, priority replies and 10% off every fixed fee. Paid monthly. There is no annual contract and no minimum term: cancel at any time from your account page. No further payment is taken, and the subscription runs to the end of the month you have paid for.
Ask Caesar Plus, £995 a month. Everything in Ask Caesar, plus one document every month: any of my published fixed-fee services, whether that is a contract reviewed and amended or a new document drafted for you. Paid monthly on the same terms, and you can cancel at any time.
The price shown is the price you pay. Joining online forms the engagement: the scope is what this page describes, you accept the Terms of Service when you sign up, and I email you within one working day to get started. If you would rather ask something first, email me.
What you get
- A named solicitor for your business. From the day you join you can say you have a solicitor, and say who it is: to customers, suppliers, investors, your bank and your accountant.
- No cold start. You are already a client, so when something needs doing there is no search, no exchange of quotes and no onboarding. The work starts when you send it.
- Your legal questions answered, as often as you need. Commercial contracts, customers and suppliers, your company and its shareholders, your staff (I act for employers only), data protection, intellectual property and your terms of business: the questions that come up in running a business. By email, with a call at no charge if it would help.
- Priority. Members' questions go to the front of the queue. I aim to reply within one working day, and usually the same day.
- 10% off every published fixed fee. For anything larger: a contract drafted, a full review with a mark-up, a shareholders agreement, a staff handbook.
- Members' notes. Articles for members only, and a newsletter on the legal questions small businesses actually ask.
- With Ask Caesar Plus, a document every month. Choose any one of my published fixed-fee services each month: a contract reviewed and amended, or a new document drafted, such as customer terms, a consultancy agreement or an employment contract. Delivered on the turnaround published for that service.
A question or a review?
A question is anything I can answer in an email: whether a clause is normal, what a term commits you to, what to say to the other side. Paste in the clause or attach the document so I can see the context. Reading a whole contract and marking it up is a review. On Ask Caesar that is a separate instruction at the member price, and it starts straight away because you are already a client. On Ask Caesar Plus it can be your document for the month.
Calling me your solicitor
- You can tell anyone you deal with that you have a solicitor, and name me
- Please do not say or suggest that I have reviewed or approved a document unless I have
- The subscription does not include dealing with the other side. If another party or their solicitor contacts me, I will tell you, and quote for anything further
- Ask me first before using my name in marketing, on your website or in a pitch deck
What is not included
- Drafting and document reviews, beyond the monthly document on Ask Caesar Plus. I quote these separately at the member price, 10% off the published fee
- Negotiating directly with the other side
- Disputes, litigation and tribunal claims
- Running an employment process, such as a disciplinary, a grievance or a redundancy
- Business sales and purchases, property, and anything else involving client money or a transaction
- Advice on any business other than the one that subscribes, or on your personal affairs
- Advice on the law of any jurisdiction other than England and Wales, and tax, accounting or regulatory advice
Fair use, in plain English
Ask Caesar is for the ordinary run of legal questions that come up in running one business. Most members will ask a handful of questions a month, with busy months and quiet ones, and that is what it is priced for. It does not replace a piece of work I have already quoted for, and it is not for advising other people's businesses.
There is no hour count and no meter. If your use is materially out of line with what the service is for, I will say so and we will talk about it, and if we cannot agree I can end the subscription. The full terms are in section 5A of my Terms of Service.
How it works
- Join online. Pay monthly by card and accept the Terms of Service. That forms the engagement.
- I email you within one working day. To confirm the business the subscription covers and who in it can send me questions. If you have a question already, include it.
- Ask. Email your questions to geoffrey@caesar.co.uk from your registered address, in whatever form they come: three lines, a forwarded email, a document with a clause highlighted. You do not need to prepare a brief. I aim to reply within one working day, usually the same day, and if a call would help I will offer one at no charge.
- On Ask Caesar Plus, choose your document. Tell me each month which document you want and send me what I need. I deliver on the turnaround published for that service.
Why not just ask an AI?
You probably already do, and you should. AI is good at telling you what the law says. What it cannot do is tell you what to do in your situation and stand behind the answer. When you ask me, you get a solicitor who has worked on commercial contracts for 25 years reading your question in the context of your business, giving you a view, and taking professional responsibility for it, with insurance behind it.
There is a second difference. Because I get to know your business and your documents, my answers get quicker and more specific as time goes on. Every question I answer for you makes the next one easier to answer well.
Why instruct me directly
A law firm has premises, partners, support staff, marketing and a compliance department, and every hour it bills has to carry a share of all of it. I have none of that. You are paying for the lawyer and nothing else.
- Senior attention as standard. The person who answers your question is the person you emailed. Nothing is delegated to a trainee.
- In-house and private practice experience. I know what a clause does to a business six months later, not just what it says.
- No onboarding process. Join online and ask. There is no client portal to register with and no forms to complete.
- Better value for the same expertise. Without a firm's overheads, senior time costs less, which is why a subscription at this level is possible at all.
- Fixed prices, published. You know the number before you commit. I publish them because cost uncertainty is the main reason businesses do not take advice they need.
Who this is for
- Customers, suppliers or investors ask who your solicitor is, and you want to have an answer
- You want to be able to say 'I will get my solicitor to look at this', and mean it
- Legal questions come up in your business more often than they get answered
- You would rather have a solicitor already in place than be looking for one when something lands
- You want a decision and a recommendation, not a lecture on contract law
- You use AI for legal questions and want someone to check the answers that matter
- You are growing, and the paperwork is not keeping pace
Questions I am often asked
How much does Ask Caesar cost?
£495 a month for Ask Caesar, or £995 a month for Ask Caesar Plus, which adds a document every month. The price shown is the price you pay. There is no minimum term, and you can cancel at any time from your account page on this site.
Can I tell people you are my solicitor?
You can. While you are a member, your business is my client and I am your solicitor, and you can say so to anyone you deal with. What you cannot do is say that I have reviewed or approved something I have not seen. The subscription also does not cover me dealing with the other side for you: that is separate work, quoted first.
What if I never ask anything?
Then you have had a solicitor in place, which is the point. Most businesses go weeks without a legal question and then have three in a day. When that day comes, you already have someone who knows the business, and nothing has to be set up.
What counts as a question?
Anything that comes up in running the business and that I can answer in an email. Whether a clause is normal or the other side pushing their luck. What to do about a customer who will not pay. Whether you own the work a contractor did for you. What a supplier's terms actually commit you to. How to change an employee's hours. Whether you need a data processing agreement. If a question needs more than an email, I will tell you, and quote for it at the member price.
Is it a telephone helpline?
No. Questions come in by email, so there is a written record and a considered answer rather than an off the cuff one. If a call would help, I will offer one at no charge, and I will suggest one when a conversation is quicker than an exchange of emails.
Who in my business can ask?
The owner or directors, and anyone they authorise when they join. The client is the business, not the individual, and questions must relate to that business. It does not cover your personal affairs or anybody else's company.
What if I need a contract drafted or reviewed?
On Ask Caesar, that is a separate piece of work at the member price, which is 10% off the published fee. Because you are already a client, it starts straight away. On Ask Caesar Plus, one document a month is included, whether drafted or reviewed and amended.
What can the monthly document be?
Any one of the fixed-fee drafting or review services published on this site, for the business that subscribes: a contract review, customer terms, a consultancy agreement, an employment contract, a data processing agreement and so on. It is one document for each month you pay for, and unused documents do not carry over. Negotiating with another party, transactions and disputes are not included.
Can I move between Ask Caesar and Ask Caesar Plus?
You can change plan from your account page, or email me and I will sort it out.
Can I cancel?
At any time, from your account page on this site. There is no minimum term and no annual contract. When you cancel, no further payment is taken and the subscription runs to the end of the month you have paid for, so you can keep using it until then. There is no refund for part of a month. If you change your mind within 14 days of first joining and have not yet asked me anything, tell me and I will refund your first payment.
Is there a limit on how much I can ask?
There is no hour count and no meter. The subscription is for the ordinary run of questions in running one business, and I expect usage to vary, with busy months and quiet ones. If use is materially out of line with what the service is for, I will say so and we will talk about it. Section 5A of my Terms of Service sets out how that works.
About me
I am Geoffrey Caesar. I have worked on commercial contracts since 2001, first in industry and then in private practice, so I have sat on both sides of the table: as the in-house lawyer who has to live with the contract, and as the external adviser who drafts it.
- Solicitor of England and Wales, admitted 2008. SRA ID 483394.
- Practising as an SRA-regulated freelance solicitor under regulation 10.2(b) of the SRA Authorisation of Individuals Regulations. Practice SRA number 666497.
- Regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and authorised to provide all legal services, including reserved legal activities.
- Called to the Bar by Gray's Inn in 2005.
- Working on commercial contracts since 2001, in-house and in private practice.
- Based in London, acting for businesses across England and Wales.
- Professional indemnity insurance in place with a limit of £1,000,000 for each claim, with defence costs in addition. Details on request.
- I do not hold client money.
Two things you should know about instructing a freelance solicitor rather than a law firm. My professional indemnity insurance is not on the SRA's minimum terms and conditions; alternative arrangements are in place instead, and I will give you the details on request. And you can still apply to the SRA Compensation Fund for losses caused by dishonesty or a failure to account for money. Everything else, including the Code of Conduct, the SRA Principles and the Legal Ombudsman, applies to me exactly as it applies to any other solicitor.
